How It Works
Overview
We noticed there’s been far too much importance left on Fantasy Football Experts. The questions we asked were “What does everyone else think? What’s the general consensus?”
Just like how the Stock Market can have analysts and experts, it’s the market demand that truly dictates where the value is. We wanted to implement a similar mentality to Fantasy Football. Let everyone’s eyes and gut be the true indicator for where players and teams should be ranked.
In addition to there being too much importance left on Fantasy Football Experts, we feel there’s an incredible lack of accountability. Whenever someone predicts how a player will do, there aren’t many options for backing those predictions up. So, we figured we’d tackle both issues with one solution. Give everyone the chance to set their own Rankings, whether it’s who you think will be the best QB in Week 11, the biggest disappointment, or the biggest surprise, set it and let’s see who’s right. With RancUp, everyone can not only get a better idea of what the consensus is for all of these questions, once the week is over we’ll be able to track who was actually right, and who unfortunately was wrong.
Rankings
When making decisions on how to draft or who to start, it can be great to ask a question and have someone give you a genuine answer.
Sometimes, there’s no time for that. Sometimes the quickest and most reliable source is a set of rankings to help show where some players are ranked in comparison to others.
Unlike most Fantasy Advice sites, our rankings won’t be comprised of 1 to 3 journalists. These rankings will be calculated based on the average of all users. Everyone will have the ability to set their own rankings, week in and week out, and with this information we’ll be able to generate a consensus that can be used as a key data point.
With everyone being able to set these rankings, once that week or season is over, we’ll be able to track who was the most accurate. On top of bragging rights, the winners for each week will receive a bonus (eg. in 2019 it was $100 every week).
League Settings
With creating a consensus set of rankings, the easiest way to do this, is to set the default league settings, and calculate the results based off that. For the Rankings section this uses the following scoring (we use fractional and negative points):
Offensive Players
Passing Yards: 1 points per 25 yards
Passing Touchdowns: 4 points
Passing Interceptions: -2 points
Rushing Yards: 1 points per 10 yards
Rushing Touchdowns: 6 points
Receptions: 1 point
Receiving Yards: 1 point per 10 yards
Receiving Touchdowns: 6 points
2-Point Conversion: 2 points
Fumbles Lost: -2 points
Fumble Recovered for a Touchdown: 6 points
Team Defense / Special Teams
Sacks: 1 point
Interceptions: 2 points
Fumbles Recovered: 2 points
Safeties: 2 points
Defensive Touchdowns: 6 points
Kick and Punt Return Touchdowns: 6 points
2-Point Conversion Returns: 2 points
Points Allowed (0): 10 points
Points Allowed (1-6): 7 points
Points Allowed (7-13): 4 points
Points Allowed (14-20): 1 point
Points Allowed (21-27): 0 points
Points Allowed (28-34): -1 point
Points Allowed (35+): -4 points
Kicking
PAT Made: 1 point
FG Made (0-49 yards): 3 points
FG Made (50+ yards): 5 points
Scoring
For how we track who is most accurate, we’re using a point system based on each player’s rank in comparison to how they finished. If you predict a player will finish exactly where they finish, you get that set amount of points. For every spot you are off, the point amount will be reduced by 5%. For example, if you predict Nick Chubb was going to be the 11th ranked RB for Week 5, and he is, you’ll get 600 points. If he finished 10th or 12th, you’ll get 570 points, 9th or 13th and you’ll get 540 points, etc. etc.
For an explanation of the point breakdown by each position and each ranking, please see below:
0/100 - The QB, K, and DEF position will only allow points earned up to the number of teams playing in a given week (no need to worry about backups). If no teams are on bye, then up to 32 positions are eligible to earn points. If 4 teams are on bye, then up to 28 positions are eligible to earn points.
Standings
After any week, we’ll be able to figure out how accurate everyone’s rankings were. Within Standings, we’ll not only be able to identify who had the best season overall, but we can also narrow it down by position and date range.
